Taking the Leap

I’m sure many of you have heard to saying ‘If you leap, the net will be there’.
There is a part in many of us (myself included) who try to hang onto to familiar and ’safe’.
As comfortable as this may feel at the time, there’s always the danger that you might miss opportunities.
Thinking outside the box even gives the idea of being locked in, to some extent.
Years ago, my sister, Meredith, was in the process of passing. During this time, she was also writing a book about her dog. After she passed, I chose to take on the job of editing and finishing her book. I quit after a couple months, however, because it was too painful for me.
When she passed, I decided to give a talk at church to commemorate her. Because I thought this poem represented the courage Meredith exhibited during the last months of her life, I decided to use it in my talk. It really was a nice addition. About six months later I was working on her book about dogs and there, in the middle of her manuscript was that same poem: ‘Come to the Edge’. I was blown away The poem had nothing to do with dogs, and yet, I was being given a clear message about Courage. It was as if she was saying if you leap, the net will be there and to just go for it.
I find this to be a very helpful reminder of courage and going on, even when it seems challenging. It is said at the end of ones’ life, people a regret what they didn’t do…never what they did do. And so, I try to express the courage, she showed, by jumping or moving into things, while knowing the net will be there to catch me.
